Have a read of my pearls of wisdom (or lack thereof!)

Fancy buying me a coffee?

5 a day

I shamelessly stole this version of 5 a day from our English department as they found it fit seamlessly into the start of their lessons. All students know what to do and just come in and get on with it. It also meant that for Spanish, they only needed a basic introduction to the concept and then they just got into it at the start of each lesson.

The idea is that they complete 5 retrieval questions at the start of each lesson.
  • The 1st question is always about verbs and tenses
  • The 2nd is always just general vocabulary (taken from the GCSE AQA spec)
  • The 3rd is always a translation into English
  • The 4th is always a translation into Spanish
  • The 5th is always a question. These are all taken from the AQA specimen and past papers and are the "unpredictable" questions from the role play and photo cards. (obviously won't be needed this year but still useful!)
Some tasks are more difficult than others. We teach mixed ability so the tasks contain a mix of higher and foundation questions and vocabulary. I've only done Y11 so far. There's enough for one per lesson for a term (longer depending how often you see your students!) I will be doing the same for Y10 over the summer and will trial it with KS3 starting with Y7 after October half term.
